What is SpeakOut?
SpeakOut is a Moscow Middle School student-run organization that encourages students to make healthy and positive choices to live a substance free life. In SpeakOut, students are encouraged to make new friends and support each other through team building activities while learning to communicate effectively. SpeakOut has been providing a consistent support structure and ongoing community service opportunities for students since 1996. This club was formerly known as “Insomnia Outbreak”.
Students plan a variety of monthly activities that connect them to positive organizations within our communities – linking kids to positive drug free experiences. Activities are typically on Friday evenings. In addition to planning activities once a month, our club also promotes kindness by participating in personalized kindness projects within our school for students and staff. Speak Out members are involved in all decision making, event operation and supervision. Our members are expected to model a healthy, positive, and substance free life style for their peers.
The mission of the SpeakOut is to provide Moscow Middle School students with alternative, positive, and substance free activities for their Friday nights while encouraging healthy living. SpeakOut events are a safe and positive space for students to talk about their experiences and learn how to live a substance free life. As a priority, the youth and adult staff model respect for themselves, each other, and their environment.
