We are off to another great start at Russell School this year! We are excited to have a very large group of students who are new to our Russell. There are lots of new friendships being made! We have been very fortunate to have our entire staff from last year return to Russell again this year (I have never heard of that happening before!). The return of our staff and all of the new families looking to join Russell speaks volumes to the strength of community we are working on forming at Russell.
All school district buildings received camera systems and front door security access over the summer. We appreciate your support as the kinks in the system get worked out. If you visit our school, you will be asked to identify yourself and reason for visiting. Please don’t be offended. My family is being screened in this same manner. It simply helps us monitor who is entering and exiting the building. The cameras will be used on occasion when investigating the minor incidents that happen from time to time at any school. While they do record movement inside and outside of the building, there isn’t somebody watching the cameras all day. That would be weird.
Russell’s Big Night is October 3rd
Math Night, Clothing Exchange, Title I Dinner, and Book Fair all in one!
At 5:30, we will be serving pizza to all Russell families interested in attending. While you eat, Mr. Adams and Mr. Allen will dazzle you with a presentation about our School-Wide Title I system. This support system assists students of all ability levels and all families are encouraged to attend. Following the dinner, students and families are invited to participate in fun math games around the building, visit our annual clothing exchange, or visit the book fair in the Russell Gym. Stay tuned to future Thursday Thunder folders and the Russell Website for more information.
Arriving at School
As the weather has cleared we are noticing more students arriving early in the morning. Please remember that we do not have student supervision available for students until 7:45AM, which is thirty five minutes before school starts. Please do not send your children to school before that time. We love that so many of our students are excited to be at Russell, we just want to make sure they are safe.
Where did the community flyers go?
Have you noticed the Thursday Thunder has been a little thinner lately? Instead of having community groups print of reams of paper and spending hours stuffing folders, our district has decided to post advertisements of interest to students on our website. You can access these by visiting any MSD website and clicking on “Community Interest” in the top gray bar.
At Russell we have started an InstaRam wall to celebrate all the positive choices our kids are making outside of school. Each month will have a different character trait as the theme, and students will be invited to bring a picture showing them carrying out that trait. Please know that we won’t be able to return pictures brought for the InstaRam wall due to the massive amounts of tape needed to secure things to our easy-to-clean Rainier White paint.
