Happy President’s Day!
I love this time of the year because we can experience snow, hail, rain and the warm sun in a given day. One can complain about the weather, but on the Palouse it can literally change within minutes. It does seem that it is getting safe to change snow boots in for rain boots now. As the snow slowly melts off the grassy playground, the field will turn into a swamp land for a period of time. If it gets really bad, we will have “blacktop only” recess for a while. Our children desperately need fresh air and room to roam during their breaks in the day. As always please dress your children as if they get to run the entire the playground.
Our school year is flying by! Our 100th day of school is just around the corner. I LOVE this time of year. As an educator it is fascinating to see students put all the pieces they’ve learned throughout the year together and soar in their progress of learning!
Talent Show: Tryouts are underway and I can PROMISE the acts will be very entertaining. It is a very special time for students to showcase their talents in a formal setting in front of an audience. Ms. Sant has worked tirelessly teaching students’ expectations of performing through Movement class, and this event is a pinnacle of those efforts.
Kindergarten Registration is right around the corner! Starting on March 1st, parents/guardians of students turning 5 years old before September 1, 2017, are welcome to make an appointment to register their child and have their child assessed by the Kindergarten teachers. The “Kindergarten Roundup” will occur from 12-6PM, April 17th and 9AM-3PM April 18th. When scheduling an appointment, parents should plan on a 1 hour appointment with their child. While parents are filling out paperwork, their child will be assessed in the areas of reading, math, speech/language and vision. Parents will then review assessments with a kindergarten teacher, go on a guided school tour with their child and receive a kindergarten bag of fun activities. Those students registered after the April “kindergarten roundup” days will be assessed in August before school starts. Only students who are in McDonald boundaries will be able to register here. If you reside in another school boundary and want to attend our fine school, you must first register at your “home” school then fill out an “open-enrollment” request form. If you have any questions, please call our office at 882-0228, or the district office at 882-1120.
Bugz, The Musical will be performed by our 3rd and 4th grades on March 9th. There will be a 10AM dress rehearsal performance for the rest of the McDonald student body and a 2PM performance for families and friends. It sounds like a one of a kind performance featuring a variety of bug costumes and music!
